What is replating?

Replating is the process of adding a fresh layer of metal to your jewellery to restore its shine and protect it from wear and tear. Over time, jewellery can lose its lustre or develop scratches, but replating can bring back that brilliant finish.

Not only does our replating service help restore the beauty of your favourite pieces, it also adds an extra layer of protection, keeping them looking stunning for years to come. It’s an affordable way to breathe new life into your collection without the need to buy new!

How do I know if my jewellery needs replating?

If your jewellery has lost its shine, shows signs of wear, or has developed tarnishing or discoloration, it’s a good indication that it may need replating. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us, and we can assess your pieces!

Will replating change the appearance of my jewellery?

Replating will restore your jewellery’s original finish and shine. If you're having it plated with a different metal (for example, switching to a gold finish from silver), it will change the look, but the piece will still maintain its unique shape and style.

How long does replating last?

The longevity of replating depends on how often you wear your jewellery and how well it's cared for. With proper maintenance, replating can last anywhere from one to three years before needing touch-ups.

Can all types of jewellery be replated?

Yes, most jewellery made of precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum can be replated. However, some materials, such as costume jewellery or pieces with non-metallic coatings, may not be suitable for replating.

How do I know if my Jewellery is suitable to be plated?

If you are unsure we're happy to help, send a picture via email (info@loveforjewellery.com) and one of our advisors will come back to you.

Do you Clean and repair the Jewellery too?

Once your jewellery has reached us, we’ll clean and prepare the pieces, ensuring they’re free from dirt. Then, we carefully apply the plating using a process called electroplating, where the metal is bonded to your jewellery to restore its shine and finish.

Can you replate fashion Jewellery made from non-precious metals?

Yes, most fashion jewellery can be replated, however, some materials or pieces with non-
metallic coatings, may not be suitable for replating. If unsure we can always advise.

Can you plate items with stones?

Most stones can be plated, however opals, lapis, malachite, moonstones, labradorite and coral may become damaged or discoloured through the plating process therefore Love for Jewellery will not be able to plate these items.

Will plating effect engraving?

Plating will not affect engraving unless the engraving is very worn.
